The Lego Movie ($12 million)– Will manage to pull at least a few younger audiences away from Mr. Film is going to leave a lot of money on the table because it decided to go the political direction.ĥ. Nothing kills a film’s word of mouth faster, expect a large drop. There is massive controversy with the film’s ending, and not the healthy kind, but the political kind. Its second week will be a whole different story. Film was neck and neck with Son Of God last weekend, and it took a strong Saturday gross for it to finally pull ahead (quite the exciting weekend). Still, it has a chance to pass Non-Stop this weekend due to that film’s recent troubles (which we’ll get into).Ĥ. Sensei nailed the film’s opening number call, but felt it could have won the weekend outright (so close). Son Of God ($15 million)– Very close with Non-Stop last week. Considering this title isn’t a well-known name among animation elites, who cares when you can pull off an opening this good? Is Dudley Do-Right set for a comeback?ģ. Peabody & Sherman($40 million)– Holy crackers! Two new films over the 40+ mark is rare, and could help restart the frame.
As the film states, “Steady your hearts, look deep into your souls, seize your glory.” Expect just such a glorious opening.Ģ. It will not match the original 300’s opening, but considering how most of the original cast can’t be in the sequel anyway, pretty impressive numbers. This project is about as “critic proof” as it gets. 300: Rise of An Empire ($49 million) – Some things are certain: the first being that political film critics will absolutely trash this film, and the second that the film’s target audience won’t care.
